Online Masterclass with Reine Okuliar: Kader Attia

The B&C Club is delighted to invite you to a new series of masterclasses, with art historian Reine Okuliar.

For this first masterclass, she will present the work of Kader Attia an artist who embodies the hybrid world that is one of the many results of European colonial past. Born Franco-Algerian in 1970, he grew up between Bab-el-Oued (Algeria) and Garges-lès-Gonesse (France), studied in Paris and Barcelona and had his first solo exhibition in Brazaville. Now based in Berlin, he came to prominence on the international stage in 2012 with the presentation of his installation The Repair from Occident to Extra-occidental Cultures at Documenta in Kassel. Since his breakthrough in Germany, Attia has exhibited internationally.

Reine Okuliar is an art historian, published art writer and freelance curator with over 40 exhibitions organised globally.  She co-founded and directed Galerie E.G.P from 2009 to 2016, a contemporary art gallery based in Paris with venues in London and New York. A contemporary art collector, she supports a number of institutions including Tate, the Whitechapel Gallery, the Camden Arts Centre and Fluxus Art Projects. Reine is a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance and of the Association of Women in the Art.

Reine received her MA with Distinction from the Courtauld Institute of Art and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh where she works on the role of Giambattista Marino’s poetics on Nicolas Poussin’s oeuvre.
